National Park Service has been created in 1916 but at that time it was already 35 sites to be manged by this organization. President Theodore Roosevelt is considered greatest conservationist president and many of his personal efforts shaped the later organization and legacy of the National Parks we enjoy today. When he lost his mother and his wife in a few hours of each other, he fled to Dakota Badlands where he discovered the healing strength of nature. He bought two ranches and spend days of hunting bears, herding cows and riding.
After visiting Yosemite National Park he said: "It was like lying in a great solemn cathedral, far vaster and more beautiful than any built by the hand of man".
Millions people every year visit these parks around the country. You can see photos but only where you are there you can experience the connection with wonder of life and us, as part of it.
